The White Tower
From the ETH Zurich RETHINKING THE FUTURE SERIES:
For the ETH Rethinking the Future Living Room at the 2022 World Economic Forum in Davos, I created three teaser videos for the featured projects.
Here is the White Tower:
The region of Grisons is known for its emigrés to Europe’s capitals in the 18th century, where they dazzled aristocrats and peasants alike with their elaborate but delicate confections of miniature sugar towers.
Fast forward a few centuries, Mulegns, a small village (population 16) in the region is culturally revitalizing itself with among other features, a fairytale white tower—3D printed out of white concrete. A callback to the baroque magnificence of Grison artisans will be used as a performance space, and hopefully become a cultural destination.
Theoretically, this is a “portable palazzo”. The concrete elements can be dismantled and reconfigured at a different location. This might well be a blueprint for environmentally friendly fantasies—and also necessities.
