Theo Bleckmann and National Sawdust present:
Kate McGarry and The Tough Get Growing Ensemble: a Durham, NC based collective featuring Kate’s husband, guitarist Keith Ganz, trumpeter Al Strong, bassist Todd Sickafoose (Ani DiFranco) and drummer Allison Miller (Natalie Merchant, Ani DiFranco) in collaboration with James Shipp on vibes, percussion, and arrangements.
THE CRACK: What To Wear In The Dark
In a multimedia program developed especially for premiere at National Sawdust, McGarry & band combine folk and Celtic vocal sensibilities with considerable jazz and improvisation chops in their thoughtful derangements of works by Leonard Cohen, The Blue Nile, Paul Simon, the Eagles and others. McGarry’s emotionally piercing originals and select standards from the Great American Songbook assist the collective as they wrestle well known anthems for challenging times with uplifting results.
Digital artist, Onome Ekeh, creates an array of arresting visuals for this live concert.
